Fences

Leaning Fence

Over time, it is fairly normal that a fence starts to lean and not stand as straight as it once did. This happens because of the posts rotting out at the bottom. We can come and dig out your old posts and replace them with new ones, to give your fence better posture. Or we can fix your fence with a fence mender, which is a metal repair kit. The metal is put underground to support the posts, resulting in a long lasting repair. This is a faster and cheaper fix that more and more customers tend to choose.

Missing or Broken Boards

Do you have any missing or broken boards on your fence? We can come and fix or replace the broken or missing ones so that your fence can look complete again. Not only do we fix the fence, but we can do the staining or painting as well to make it look like the original.

Broken Fence Post

Having a broken fence post is a common failure on wooden fences. It is very easy to identify this problem, if your fence is fallen over, or if it is loose when you push against it, you most likely have a broken or rotten fence post.

The most common reason for your fence post to break is caused by rot. This happens because water and moisture get trapped around the post in the dirt, soaking the post. The result is a weakened wet post. This means that over the years, at some point, it will be weak enough for the wind to knock it over.

There are two main ways of fixing this. Option number one is to have Arvada Handyman come out and dig out your old post. We will then pour new concrete and set a new post in it and rebuild any damage to the fence boards. This is the more expensive way to get it fixed. Option number two is to have Arvada Handyman use a fence mender. The fence mender is a piece of metal that we hammer down on two sides of the post to give it the structure back where it has broken. This will extend the lifetime of your fence by many years since metal will not rot away like wood does.

When we are out and repairing or replacing fence posts, we will also inspect the rest of your fence and give you an update on the condition of your fence.

Missing, Loose, or Broken Fence Boards

We often see that fence boards either become loose, damaged, or missing. The best way to fix and repair these issues are to simply replace the boards. We can sometimes tighten up the boards, but it is going to be better in the long run to replace them because usually the loose boards have some type of damage to them.

We also offer the service of staining or painting your new fence boards. If you would like it to match the rest of your fence, you will need to supply the stain or paint. Even if we use the same stain as original, it might have slight color difference. If you don’t have any of the original stain, we do offer a basic stain to protect your new fence boards.

Sagging or Dragging Gate Repair

Over time, gates have a tendency to start sagging or dragging. This is a very common issue that can be caused by different reasons. Gates need regular maintenance, just like doors do. Often, we can reinforce the gate with a new cross member and more screws, to fix the sag. Other times, the problem might have to do with the post, in which the gate is mounted to. Sometimes the only way to repair the gate is to build a new one.

The Gate Does Not Close or Latch Properly

Throughout the four seasons we have here in Colorado, fences are exposed to all kinds of harsh weather. As your wooden fence is exposed to the snow, rain, intense heat, etc., the wood goes through a lot of expanding and contracting. This can cause the gate to not close or latch. It becomes misaligned.

To fix this issue, we often have to move the latch and align the gate. Sometime we will also have to move the gate hardware, or reinforce the gate with more screws and a cross member.
